Technology behind heat resistant cables

The idea behind installing heat resistant cables is to ensure safety, which also happens to be the topmost priority while employing any system.

During the first stage of a fire, the basic idea is to stop the propagation of fire and extinguish the impact caused by the fire at the earliest to reduce any kind of ill effect to the device in use. At the same time, we need to ensure that people can be evacuated under safe conditions. LAPP India, one of the leading cable manufacturers India, is constantly working to build top class heat resistant cables for protection against any such instances, and these cables are available for purchase on the portal.

The situation gets critical when the fire is out of control. With the release of intense heat, opaque smoke and toxic substances, which drastically limits the possibility of escape.

Exit strategy:

  • Usually all the building should have special devices with the main feature to alert people to EXITs, and extract harmful substances, etc. As it has become one of the common phenomena that the standard smoke detectors are sometimes unreliable because people forget to test and change the batteries regularly.  All these safety elements must be connected to the proper power network.
  •  Heat resistant cables are often used as a connector between emergency equipment’s or to provide power.  In the following scenario, they function as active elements since they must maintain electrical continuity or transmit a signal for an adequate amount of time.
  • The details on the change in the design that the heat-resistant cables have gone through is mentioned below:

  1.  Initial designs included copper conductors wrapped with mica tape(s) and cross-linked polyolefin. Here the core technology is the mica, and the cable performance is related to its quality, nature, suppliers, and taping.
  2. The second generation which was based on silicone-rubber-insulated conductors. With the property of high electrical resistance, this material forms a ceramic shield when encountered with any fire accidents. It is the most common solution for building applications.
  3.  And the latest one is the mix of two generations of the conductors as listed above

Installation of safety circuit:

Safety installations can be considered in two ways.

  • The First one consists in placing heat resistant cables directly within cable management systems (trays, ladders, etc.), having at the least equal performance in terms of integrity. This is done easily by standard assemblers.
  • The Second solution is more sophisticated and complex. The cables are drawn inside protective systems that are either pre-manufactured or built onsite. The inside temperature is never higher than their failure point (>100°C). This special property can be reached, for example, using specific additives releasing water when exposed to high temperatures.
  • In the case of short circuit, the standard cables start to burn and the fire quickly progresses along a route throughout the building that is almost impossible to detect. Instead of providing protection, they become a threat. All things considered, it seems much more appropriate and far less expensive to install safety circuits using heat resistant cables only. With LAPP India, one of the leading cable manufacturers India, we can reduce the fire accidents and build safe working environment.

Oil Resistant Cables: Know How Important They Are!

Demands of the industrial environment are ongoing, with ever-changing trends. Cables that were able to sustain functional and operational integrity a decade ago would not be adequate to survive in the environment of a present day manufacturing site. Everywhere, from the renewable energy industry and automotive assembly plants to the factories that manufacture small office machines, and even in some commercial buildings, oil resistant cables have become increasingly important. Oils serve a dual-purpose in industrial applications, both as a coolant and lubricant, depending upon the requirements mandated by the end use application. Sustaining trouble-free cable operation under harsh chemical and environmental conditions reduces costly manufacturing downtime and helps to eliminate or minimize periodic maintenance and costly cable replacement. All of the factors mentioned play a major role that is critical to a consistent, smoothly run manufacturing operation, which in the end res...

The future with Fiber Optic cables

Internet penetration in India is a major concern and will be for a while. Only 400 million of India’s 1.2 billion strong population is online, after all. As fiber optic technology continues to revolutionize the telecommunication and data capabilities of a range of industries, the average individual may not understand the advantages that fiber optic technology provides for us in our everyday life. To better understand the advantages and capabilities of fiber optic technology, we’ll outline a few basics touch points of fiber optics and their contribution to our everyday lives. Let us catch up on the benefits of optical fiber over traditional metallic wire. Benefits of Optic Fibers Vs. Traditional Metallic Wiring? Besides the fact that conventional metallic wiring is far more expensive to produce, fiber optics deliver a superior amount of quality, convenience, and durability currently unmatched in telecommunication technology. Although the majority of our practical ...

Overview of LAPP as Company

Here’s where it all started… In the early 1950s, the revolution in industrialization led to a massive demand for cables and conductors. When Oskar Lapp witnessed this development, he posed a question to himself: "How can I optimize the current method - the time-consuming manual inserting of single cores and switching strands into the outer sheaths?" In a while he got his answer. Thus the idea of the world’s first ever industrially produced flexible, colour-coded signal cable - ÖLFLEX® was conceived by Lapp and LAPP Group came into existence. When it was still something new, in 1959, LAPP gave his products brand names and it quickly allowed them to be distinguished from their competition. Even in this, Oskar Lapp became a front runner to become the first person offering catchy branding that are still very much in use. LAPP’s most well-known brand is ÖLFLEX®, that has secured a place in the history of cable manufacturers India and the rest of the world. In 1979, LAPP...
